Here's my work on HoverBall Strikers, our student graduation game project!
My main job was on Character Design, their 2D Animations, and the Animated Intro.
Our main goal was to create graphic elements that serve gameplay first, which is crucial for fighting games. In this way, the world of the game was organically made to accentuate the energetic and fun feeling the team was looking for.
Mathieu and I designed the two playable characters with this idea in mind, with some additional help from Orson. Zia was mainly influenced by Mathieu, and Doramu by me.
When working on rough animations, I had to carefully follow the frame data so every pose would be in accordance with the hitboxes and timing decided by the game designers. Since both characters had very similar moveset, I wanted their animations to be very different and full of personality! For the cleaning part, I was helped by Mathieu and Orson.
We also worked together on the animated intro of the game! I mainly worked on the rough animations, video editing, and fx.
I also had the idea to add NPCs in the background. Each one of them has different behavior depending on who they're supporting! Their animations are simpler, so they wouldn't disturb the main action.
Finally, one essential task was to do color swap for the game. This was not as simple as it seemed at first, and this was only possible with the help of my fellow programmers!
